This group is for Linux users, and is intended to share and to show all that makes them comfortable with their free OS environment! So please feel free to join and make it as if it were your own lounge!

As any group we have some rules, so please read :

Submissions :
- The submissions limit for folders is 2 per day per member.
- The submissions limit to the "Desktop Samples" folder is 1 per week. Why ? The purpose is to have a collection of useful tools for our members.
That's also why the folder is called "Desktop Samples", because we are expecting screenshots that has been prepared and really organized to be useful "samples" for others, not just a printscreen. It's not a question of subjective quality, more a question of how people are involved in their deviations

!
- The contest folder will only be open for contest time and will allow three submissions per month per member only!

Deviations and contents :
- no copies of proprietary software will be accepted.
- licenses must be followed, and links, credits and permissions must be added to the comment of your deviations when you use others works in it.
-mature content is accepted, as long as it has a mature tag

General rules about the group :
- we follow the dA policy [link], so no disrespecting or discriminating against anyone.
- we encourage or members to submit and promote others works. So, please, feel free to submit works of other members and collaborate with each other. That's what Linux is made of !

We're a free community and we respect the freedom of others.

TIP! Easy Way to Prevent Facebook TrackingFacebook surveils everyone's web browsing regardless of whether they have an account or not, as described in this paper: http://ssrn.com/abstract=1717563
A simple way to prevent any packets being sent to or received from Facebook is to set up filtering using iptables. On most GNU and Linux distributions, you can run the following three commands as root:
iptables -A INPUT -d facebook.com -j DROP
iptables -A OUTPUT -d facebook.com -j DROP
iptables -A FORWARD -d facebook.com -j DROP
The URL can be changed for other sites as well if you wish. Eg - for Twitter's "tweet" buttons run the same commands but using platform.twitter.com as the domain to reject.

Script to generate my-wallpaper.xml for GnomeOk, I showed how to create a custom.xml to incorporate a wallpaper slideshow on Gnome (should also work on gnome derivatives, Unity & Cinnamon but not tested here) in my previous journal entry. http://fav.me/d5m03w3
Some people prefer a static background they can select from Appearances. I found a script for that on Ubuntu forums, the name & link are noted in the script. It is annotated with instructions.
It works great, hope you find a use for it.

#Actually, you don't have to add manually your 80 wallpapers. I wrote a script to do that (I have a lot of wallpapers I #wanted to add to the appearance menu too :smile

Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - NautilusI've decided to re-write this little tutorial for those who are interested in a more "Mac Feel" on the gnome Desktop.
First, open terminal and write:
apt-get source nautilus
sudo apt-get build-dep nautilus
The build-dep command will install all the build dependencies for nautilus.
In nautilus sorce folder you just downloaded, navigate to: src\file-manager.
Find the file named: fm-desktop-icon-view.c
Open with your favorite Text Editor and find the line:
real_supports_labels_beside_icons (FMIconView *view)
Below it you'd see this line: return FALSE;
Change it to:
return TRUE;
On GNOME3 and Nautilus 3.x+ search for the file: /src/nautilus-desktop-icon-view.c in the directory you just downloaded.
And look for this line: "supports-labels-beside-icons", FALSE,
Change FALSE to TRUE
Save the file.
Now start to compile Nautilus.
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
sudo make install
killall nautilus
Alt+F2
nautilus
Choose Text Beside Icons in the Preferences.
Nautilus now should draw Text beside icoText Beside Icons on the Desktop - Nautilus by ~Oi3pRNnX
